Silistra is a beautiful city on the river bank of the lower Danube. It is a port city that is the administrative center of the Silistra Province, Bulgaria. I’ve been several times to the Silistra region. Let me share with you the best things to do there and the most interesting sites to visit.

Before my first visit in Silistra, I had only associated it with the Danube River. But since then I’ve known that this is a city with a very ancient history, which has preserved significant remains from the time of Thracians, Romans, Byzantines, Slavs and Bulgarians.

Iglika eco-trail near the city of Gabrovo

If you happen to go to the region of Gabrovo, Dryanovo, or Veliko Tarnovo, and you want to walk on an easy path with nice views, I recommend you the Iglika eco-path. Its route is just that, it is suitable for people of all ages and can be visited in any season of the year. We were there in the second half of this March, on a sunny but quite windy day. Despite the wind, which tried to move me from time to time, I was very impressed by the walk.

The Black Rock in Rila Mountains – a colorful and pleasant autumn walk

On this so sunny Sunday in the mid November we headed to Rila Mountains after more than a month at home. The walk was quite short and leisurely, to the Black Rock, but we still managed to see and feel the charm of the golden autumn. After a month of forced sitting, I felt free and at ease in the fresh embrace of the mountain. I wanted to absorb every sight, every smell, every breath that day.

Beli Iskar Eco Trail in Rila Mountains

The Beli Iskar Eco Trail is a very good idea for a walk near Sofia.

Some time ago I told you that the eco-trail White River is one of the best made eco-trails I have walked till now. In this article I will tell you about another well-made and maintained path. It also bears the name of the river along which it was built. Its route meanders in the gorge of the Beli Iskar River (White Iskar) above the city of Samokov, on the outskirts of Rila National Park. The trail is equipped with a lot of wooden bridges over the river and rest zones.

Pomorie: Ancient-Thracian domed tomb

I spent so many summer days near Pomorie as a child, but at that time I had no idea about the so interesting Thracian domed tomb located there… A couple of years ago I came across a post about the tomb and after a while I visited that amazing place. Although the temple is little-known, the access to it is quite easy and convenient. You can get there by car.
